Bold Journeys Conflict Resolution Services, LLC
I founded Bold Journeys in 2006 to house my mediation practice. I named my company Bold Journeys to convey my belief that mediation involves a journey – a journey from uncertainty to resolution, from conflict to reconciliation. A mediation journey often proves grueling, challenging the participants’ grit and determination. I included "bold" in my company's name to emphasize the point that a successful mediation requires a tenacious spirit and a willingness to make decisive moves on the part of the parties, their counsel and the mediator.
Like many mediators, I practiced law for many years before venturing into mediation. But unlike many of his colleagues, I was not a trial lawyer. After graduating from Yale Law School four decades ago, I devoted my legal career to business transactions. I helped countless entrepreneurs and investors start new businesses and wind down failed ventures. I helped business people buy, sell and consolidate companies in a variety of industries, including food service, hospitality and manufacturing. I helped manufacturers, retailers and service companies raise working capital, and helped banks negotiate lending terms for commercial customers and real estate developers.
My special legal expertise was franchise and distribution law. I helped more than 30 visionaries translate creative ideas into successful franchise and distributorship programs, and assisted established franchisors to introduce their concepts to over 40 countries throughout the world.
As a lawyer, I was an architect and negotiator of business deals, an attorney who helped clients identify their needs and then help them create paths to their goals. I incorporated my negotiating experience into my mediation practice, with an emphasis on exploring creative solutions to disputes, defusing hostile confrontations and, when possible, repairing broken relationships.
As a mediator, I seek to create paths to solid solutions to business and commercial disputes and interpersonal conflicts. Depending on the circumstances and the parties' objectives, I draw on my understanding of distributive, interest-based and narrative approaches to enable the parties to identify and satisfy their economic interests and emotional needs.
